operation "look good in a wedding dress"

Once upon a time, a long time ago I use to be skinny.  When I was 18 I weighed 98 lbs and wore a size 0-2.  15 years later, I am 33 weigh 143 lbs and wear a size 10-12.  What happened?

What happened is that when I got to college I ate at anytime of night and started drinking alcohol.  What happened is that I was no longer physically active like I was when I was on the dance team.  That is what happened.

I can't even blame having a baby to my weight gain because while I was pregnant with Levi, I only gained 15 lbs and Levi was born at a little over 9 lbs.  How does that happen right?  Josh did most the cooking during my pregnancy so we ate a lot of grilled chicken and steamed broccoli.  Not with the intention of eating healthy but because that was the only thing Josh knew how to make.  He doesn't know how to cook but that man can grill.

My mission for the next 12 months before the wedding is to slim down and look good in a wedding dress.  I am realistic.  I don't expect myself to slim down to the size I was when I was 18 but I would like to be at a healthy 120 and wear a size 6.  Bahahahah! Wouldn't everybody?!

Here is my plan.  A friend of mine has recommended Jillian Michael's "30 Day Shred."  I have purchased it.  It is sitting on my shelf next to the new hand weights that I bought still in its packaging.  I am going to open the package and get up at a crazy early hour in the morning and attempt the 30 Day Shred.  I already work out a few days a week at the gym doing cardio but I'm going to kick it up a notch and go 5 days a week.

This is the "BIG" doozy.  I will cut down on my beloved food.  I will still cook and bake whatever my little heart desires, but I will not eat it (sounds impossible I know  but I have done it before).  My cooking will be for Josh and my lovely coworkers and friends.  I will eat "healthy" and low carb.  That is the plan.

Last year my boss started the HCG diet and saw immediate drastic results.  So I jumped on the bandwagon.  I did really well and in 30 days I went from 139 to 122.  Then I got laid off and all the weight went back on including an extra 5 lbs.  While I was on the HCG diet I still cooked and baked whatever I wanted and didn't eat "most" of it.  I know I can do it again.

You know you need to lose a few pounds when you go try on clothes at the mall and you get so disappointed by how a size 10 fits that you buy makeup and shoes instead.  If this outfit here is not going to look good on me then damn it I am at least going to paint my face pretty and have beautiful shoes on my skinny feet.  Have you ever felt like this?.....

  1. SO glad you bought Jillian Michaels! I am her BIGGEST fan!!! I have to be honest, I see more results doing her dvds than running 6 miles a day. She will MAKE YOU SWEAT!!! No joke! Nick is a big fitness nut and he's always telling me it's 80% what you eat. Eat right and eat healthfully. He was right (again). I'm eating so much more healthfully and doing a lot of running and Jillian's Ripped in 30 (harder version of Shred but still 30 min with 4 levels instead of 3) and I am seeing results FAST! I don't ever want to go back the way I ate. This feeling is really, really awesome and I want to stick with it...forever! I can't wait for you to try that dvd! Oh, and if you can, completely cut out sugar and only eat whole grain carbs in the daytime only. The pounds will just melt off - I promise!! Do you calorie count as well? My max is 1200...but I'm kind of intense about my workouts and eating =(. Let me know how you like that dvd!

  2. Thanks so much for recommending Jillain to me Sarah. I was planning on starting my plan on Monday but why wait till Monday right? No time like right now. Thank you for your support. Will keep you posted on how I do! What do you recommend for whole grain carbs? Any brands? Whole grain pasta? Whole grain bread? I try counting my calories but I should be better about it! :)

  3. I am VERY strict about calorie counting. I even count fruit. I use this awesome iphone app called MyFitnessPal...you can track food, work outs, weights and everything. First 2 weeks, on top of running 6x a week and doing Jillian Michaels dvd 4x a week (minimum), I would eat only 1000 calories (only cuz my BMR is pretty low)...so to lose a pound that's 3500 calories and that means I have to either work out or eat 500 calories less every day in order to lose a pound a week. After 2 weeks, I bumped up my calories between 1100-1200 max so that I don't mess up my metabolism. I get it down to a science with food (exact measurement - never "eyeball it". Like I said, I'm pretty intense with this. And if I were you, AT LEAST for 2 weeks, I would NOT eat carbs or sugar or red meat AT ALL. We eat a lot of fish and lean chicken and raw veggies. For morning when I mean carb, I eat one slice of whole grain wheat toast (wholefoods brand) with organic ground peanut butter (I got it ground in that machine from WF) and 1 egg (my protein) AND ALWAYS fruit. After an hour, I go running for 3-4 miles, then I do my Jillian Michaels dvd after. For lunch I eat fruit again with low-fat yogurt with 2 spoon of granola, or smoothie, or salad with avocado. I snack on nuts and more fruits or those pop-chips, or veggie chips (just a handful). Then dinners are usually fish or chicken with half veggies. I try to eat raw veggies as much as possible. NO dessert. STAY AWAY FROM SWEETS! Portion control everything and eat small snacks throughout the day so you aren't starving. So my only carb I eat is that one toast. OR bananas. Eat complex natural carbs. Again...I'm so freaking nuts about this. But my body is getting really toned and leaner. I don't ever want to be like just flabby slender. I want to build muscles and tone up bc muscles are super important! Ok, I just sounded like a personal trainer - lol! We can talk more about it tomorrow if you want =).
